Private Pilots License

To obtain a Private Pilot Certificate, applicants must be 17 years of age to obtain the certificate. The FAA requires the applicant to hold at least a Third Class Medical Certificate and pass a written, oral, and practical flight test. Must have at least the following minimum flight experience:

40 hours of flight instruction, (per FAA CFR Part 61) including:

  • 20 hours of dual instruction time
  • 10 hours minimum solo time (5 hours of cross-country)

Ground School:

BEFA offers aviation ground school courses through Renton Technical College (RTC) and Everett Community College (ECC). This 60-hour course consists of morning or evening classes. (3 hrs/day, 2 days a week) Boeing employees, see your Boeing LTP for voucher eligibility

These classes are open to Boeing employees, retirees, family members, and the general public. The cost includes all books and supplies needed for the course. Contact the colleges for enrollment.
