Perseids Overnight Fly-In & Stargazing Party — Darrington, WA (1S2)
From https://darringtonstrong.org/friends-of-north-mountain/ — please check for most up to date info:
Fly in for one of the best Perseid nights in years — the shower peaks under a new moon Aug 12–13, and Friends of North Mountain are hosting a free public Stargazing Party at the North Mountain Fire Lookout above Darrington, with telescopes on site.
PLAN AN OVERNIGHT: Runway lights and beacon at 1S2 are OTS indefinitely — daylight VFR only. Arrive well before sunset (approx. 8:20 PM), depart after sunrise Friday. Primitive camping with your aircraft is permitted at the field per town code (no hookups). Prefer a bed? The Darrington Motor Inn (360-436-1776) is a basic motel a half-mile walk from the field — the only one in town, so call early.
The lookout is a drive up forest roads with no pilot shuttle. The hosts are taking questions at
northmountainlookout@gmail.com — if you’d want a ride up, email and ask. Plan to be self-sufficient; camp at the field and the meteor shower is overhead all night either way.
Rwy 10/28, 2,491 x 40 ft asphalt. CTAF 122.9. Unattended; tie-downs. Check NOTAMs.
Cost: Free
